An incredible huge rare ruby, with a fantastic story. This 29.65 carat natural, grs certified unheated untreated ruby is truly a one of a kind investment piece.

Exhibiting a wonderful red hue with beautiful silk visible throughout, with great character and fantastic saturation. Faceted in the classic cushion shape with a stepped pavilion arrangement, typical for gemstones. This amazing ruby started its life as one of the first ever large rubies to be mined from the then unknown locality of winza, tanzania discovered in 2008/9. As the mine gained industry recognition, more and more gemologists flocked to winza to sample the stones and see if the rumors of the spectacular vibrant reds were true.

They weren't disappointed now, winza is regarded as an important ruby source, not only for the great reds and sizes available but because the crystals often require no treatment, often rivalling the rubies of more well known locales such as madagascar and burma. I cant stress enough how rare untreated rubies are.

Untreated rubies over 3 carats are considered rare, never mind nearly 30 carats when it was first mined it weighed over 80 carats, that's roughly 16 grams, a completely unheard of size typically, 98% of rubies available on the market have been heat treated or glass filled, sometimes even a combination of both, this is done to enhance the appearance and durability of the stone and make it sellable. Grs certified this ruby not long after the mine started to really make its mark in the market. Grs is a gemological lab based in lucerne, switzerland and thailand, and is widely regarded as one of the top 3 gemstone labs in the world, along with gubelin and ssef.

Diamond labs such as gia, igi, and hrd do not carry as much weight when it comes to coloured gemstone certification and aren't held in the same regard as the gem labs in this respect. For high end coloured gemstones, grs is second to none.
