Originally discovered in 1916, it was named by the dominican who re-discovered it in 1974, taking the first letters of his daughter's name, larissa, and the spanish word for the sea, mar, to create larimar. Why is larimar so rare.

Larimar is a rare, sky-blue colored gemstone. It is a variety of the mineral pectolite. While pectolite is usually gray, blue larimar gets its color from copper impurities. To date, blue larimar has only been found in one location in the world: the dominican republic, and some other parts of the caribbean. How do you cleanse larimar. Once a week or from time to time, wash your larimar stone piece with clean, fresh water, and a few drops of mild soap and with a soft brush clean the dirt from the silver setting, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. The larimar stone might turn slightly bluer due to water absorption. The item must be returned in its original condition with original packing.
